BFPA Chairperson makes the first cultural visit after COVID-19 outbreak to promote cultural exchange

  At the invitation of BFPA Member Stiftung Oper in Berlin, and artistic institutions such as Verbier Festival and Wiener Symphoniker, a delegation led by Mr. WANG Ning, BFPA Chairperson and NCPA President, is now on a visit to Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The visit is to promote and deepen pragmatic cooperation between BFPA members, practising the concept of peaceful development by setting up a bridge for people-to-people communication among different civilizations.

  

  On November 11th and 12th, Mr. WANG and the delegation arrived in Switzerland and met with Marc Meyer, Executive Vice President of Opernhaus Zürich, Martin Engstroem, founder and Director of Verbier Festival, and Michael Haefliger, Executive and Artistic Director of Lucerne Festival (BFPA Member) respectively. They held in-depth talks about innovative cooperation in various fields.

  The delegation visited Opernhaus Zürich and met with Marc Meyer, Vice President of Opernhaus Zürich.

   

  

   

  

  

  

  

  The two sides shared their experiences about how to maintain smooth operation, fulfill social responsibilities and develop audiences online after the outbreak of COVID-19. Mr. Meyer expressed his appreciation for Mr. WANG’s visit to Europe during the pandemic to plan for future cooperation. Mr. Meyer also spoke highly of the BFPA in strengthening the dissemination and promotion of performing arts using digital technology during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  

  Verbier Festival

  

  

  The delegation met with Martin Engstroem, the founder and President of Verbier Festival.

  

  

  

  

  

  

  

  In 2022, piano virtuoso Pletnev and the Verbier Festival Orchestra joined hands for “Music from Around the World”, a concert series specially presented by the BFPA, showing the authentic sound of Verbier to Chinese music lovers online. The streaming has been watched for 20 million times.

  

  Mr. Ernstrom said that when the world’s cultural and art circles have difficulty in touring in the context of COVID-19 pandemic, the leading cultural organisations are expected to come forward together to take practical actions and fulfil the responsibilities as cultural workers to soothe people’s hearts. Mr. WANG said that excellent cultural and artistic institutions should work together to create a new picture for international exchanges in the pandemic as well as the post-epidemic era. Mr. Engstroem warmly invited Mr. WANG to the activities next year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Verbier Festival.

  

  November 12th Lucerne Switzerland

  On January 12th, the delegation arrived in Lucerne, Switzerland, and met with Michael Haefliger, Executive and Artistic Director of Lucerne Festival.

  

  

  

  

  

  In 2022, Riccardo Chailly and Mao Fujita joined hands with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra to launch “Music from Around the World” online series. The streaming has been watched for 25 million times.

  

  Mr. Haefliger expressed the willingness to join hands with the BFPA and NCPA in promoting the exchange and development of classical music, creating new works together, and sticking to excellent artistic quality and experience. Both sides gave specific advice on extending cooperation in the field of the broadcast and promotion of digital content and performing tour under the framework of the BFPA. Mr. Haefliger agreed with Chairperson WANG’s proposals and said that Lucerne Festival would make good use of the BFPA platform, act actively as a member and lead the whole team to participate in BFPA’s events and support the implementation of relevant proposals. After talks, Mr. WANG made a special visit to the Kultur-und Kongresszentrum Luzern, where the Lucerne Festival is located, to inspect the facilities and operation.

  

  Next, the delegation will go to Vienna, Austria and Berlin, Germany to meet with the heads of Wiener Symphoniker, Staatsoper Unter den Linden (BFPA Member) and Dresden Music Festival, as well as masters such as Buchbinder, so as to build a solid foundation for friendship, and to open up new areas of cooperation and plan for future development.
