The Added Value of China's Copyright-related Industries Topped RMB 7 Trillion

Beijing, Dec.30 (Xinhua, by Shi Jingnan) According to research report titled "The Economic Contribution of Copyright-related Industries in China (2019)" recently released by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication, in 2019, the added value of China's copyright-related industries was RMB 7.32 trillion, up 10% on a year-on-year basis. In the year, it accounted for 7.39% of the GDP, up 0.02 percentage points over that of the previous year. The proportion of China's copyright-related industries to the national economy increased steadily and the overall scale of the industries further increased.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, China's National Copyright Administration and local copyright administrations comprehensively implemented the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, used legal, policy and administrative means to promote high-quality development of China's copyright-related industries. Between 2016 and 2019, the added value of China's copyright-related industries increased from RMB 5.46 trillion to RMB 7.32 trillion, and the scale of the industries increased by 34%. As is seen from the contributions of China’s copyright-related industries to the national economy, the proportion of the industries to GDP increased steadily from 7.33% in 2016 to 7.39% in 2019, up 0.06 percentage points. As a new engine for innovation-driven development, the copyright-related industries played an important role in improving and upgrading China's economic structure and gave an impetus to the high-quality development of China's economy.

According to the research report, as China deepens its supply-side structural reform, digital transformation accelerates in such business forms as press, publications, radio, film, television, software, advertising, and design, etc., giving an impetus to the rapid development of core copyright-related industries. In 2019, the added value of China's core copyright-related industries reached RMB 4.59 trillion, up 10% on a year-on-year basis. The core copyright-related industries accounted for 63% of the entire copyright industries, playing a greater role in supporting and guiding the development of the copyright industries.
