Directly after the concert of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra in the KKL Concert Hall with Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, the concert audience and passers-by on Europaplatz were in for a big surprise: the musicians stepped out of the building shortly before 12:00 noon and once again tuned individual movements from the Four Seasons. The short pop-up concert was entitled "Play for Birds" and followed on from last year's successful sing-along event "Sing for Birds", which was held in June 2023. Lucerne Festival wanted to use the campaign to once again draw attention to the endangered situation of the bird world. Lucerne Festival donates CHF 15,000 as part of "Play for Birds".
Since last year, Lucerne Festival and BirdLife Lucerne have jointly launched several campaigns to protect the native bird world. In addition to last year's "Sing for Birds" and today's "Game for Birds", Lucerne Festival employees planted 400 metres of hedge in Pfeffikon/LU in autumn 2023. This hedge provides valuable habitat for birds and insects. In June 2024, the team actively supported the maintenance of this hedge to ensure its sustainable development.
The commitment to regional biodiversity and sustainability is an integral part of Lucerne Festival's comprehensive sustainability strategy, which includes measures and goals in the areas of social, ecological and economic sustainability.
