About
Founded in 1900, the Wiener Symphoniker is one of Europe's most prestigious orchestras with a celebrated tradition. Together with its Viennese counterpart, the Vienna Philharmonic, it represents the highest standard of classical music performance in Austria. The orchestra's primary venues are the golden-walled Musikverein and the nearby Konzerthaus.
Since 1946, the Wiener Symphoniker has held the position of "Orchestra in Residence" at the Bregenz Festival. In 2006, the orchestra also became the opera orchestra for the Theater an der Wien, where it accompanies a diverse range of opera productions. The ensemble further enriches its distinguished profile through regular international tours to the world's major music capitals.
