National Symphony Orchestra
Founded in 1931, the Sodre Symphony Orchestra is one of the emblems of Uruguayan culture, the oldest among the continent's state orchestras, and a name recognized by the great artists of the world throughout its more than eight decades of life.
Resident at the Dr. Adela Reta National Auditorium, from there it develops her vocation as a national symphony orchestra with international projection. Thus, in its first concert, on June 20, 1931, it offered an eclectic program that integrated works of different styles and periods together with the work of a living national composer – Eduardo Fabini – broadcast live throughout the country by the Sodre radio.
In addition to bringing together the best musicians in the country, great figures from the world of music – conductors and soloists – passed through it throughout its history. The list extends if we consider the figures from the world of opera and dance who performed in Sodre productions with the orchestra performing in the pit.
In 2023, Nicolas Rauss assumed its musical direction.
