Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo

Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo is managed and operated by the Fundación Amigos del Teatro Mayor whose mission is to enhance social, educational, and cultural conditions to promote the well-being of Bogotá’s citizens. Through a successful public–private cultural management model, the theater has become a cornerstone of the city’s cultural policy, as well as one of the most vigorous art institutions in Colombia.

Since its inauguration in 2010, the Teatro Mayor has presented more than 150 performances each season, spanning a wide range of genres—including classical, contemporary, jazz, world music, Colombian traditional and popular music, experimental works, opera, zarzuela, classical and contemporary theater and dance, circus, and multidisciplinary creations that push the boundaries of the performing arts. In 2025, the theater will further expand its offerings with 228 performances of 156 different productions. In the meantime, the theater also collaborates with national and international creators and partners with leading cultural institutions worldwide to co-produce new works. These productions have been staged in numerous cities across the Americas and Europe.

The Teatro Mayor hosts Colombia’s two most important orchestras, the National Symphony Orchestra and the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra. Together, with the support of the Teatro Mayor, they create a year-round symphony season that enriches the city’s cultural offerings.
