On March 23rd 2021, Mr. Matías Tarnopolsky, President and CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra signed the Statute of the Beijing Forum for Performing Arts. The Philadelphia Orchestra officially became the 25th member of the BFPA.
The Philadelphia Orchestra was founded in 1900. Through innovative programming, robust educational initiatives, and commitment to the community, the ensemble is on a path to create an expansive future for classical music. The Orchestra has done world or American premieres of important works such as Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 (“Symphony of a Thousand”), Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder, Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. The Kimmel Center has been the ensemble’s home since 2001. The Orchestra also performs at community centers, classrooms to hospitals, and over the airwaves and online for art lovers.
At the 2020 Beijing Forum, Mr. Matías Tarnopolsky, President and CEO of the Orchestra made a speech, sharing the Orchestra’s efforts during the epidemic. In October 2020, the Orchestra’s online concert Opening Night Celebration Concert was advocated on the BFPA’s online platform.
