Moonlit Night-Son et Lumière with lieder by Robert Schumann

Introduction

Moonlit Night
Robert Schumann-Son et Lumière with lieder by Robert Schumann [2020]

They are the resounding heart of the Komische Oper Berlin ensemble: the chorus soloists. Together with members of the orchestra they will be presenting an evening rich in suggestive sounds: lieder by the Romantic composer Robert Schumann, arranged by Choral Director David Cavelius, with lighting by Klaus Grünberg, and enchantingly staged by Barrie Kosky.

In the year 1840 Robert Schumann composed nearly 150 lieder and set to music the lyrics of two masters of language: Joseph von Eichendorff and Heinrich Heine. Arranged for string quartet and harp, the Eichendorff Liederkreis is sung by the woman’s choir and Dichterliebe, based on Heine’s Buch der Lieder, is sung by male voices. Barrie Kosky and Klaus Grünberg bring to life on stage Romantic depth and lyrical solitude as a play of sound and light, a poetic artwork made of voices and music. An evening of radiant longing and sonorous melancholy.
