After coproducing with Covent Garden, Vienna, Metropolitan, Berlin and Mariinsky, the NCPA Beijing, in its 12th year of activity, and after having realized 68 new opera productions, is willing to welcome coproduction proposals.

The recent NCPA’s productions of western operas look toward a new unusual aesthetic, less realistic and materialistic, and more symbolic and futuristic using modern technologies and today’s languages.

Besides the total minimalist Bizet’s Les pecheurs de perles directed by Wim Wenders, coproduced with Berlin Staatsoper, a big success and a very favorable audience’s appreciation has been Gounod’s Romeo et Juliet created by Stefano Poda and consisting in a rotating platform with a stair symbolizing the human DNA inside a white gallery enlighted by 6.000 metres of led lights that gave a fascinating immersion in the opera action.

In moments the stair platform would disappear in the moving back stage to let a big sphere rise up from the understage and split in two parts symbolizing the Ying and Yang of the Tao philosophy and then finally reuniting, at the end, in a surprising rotating sphere moved by inside motors that fascinated the audience and made a real big event of this opera.

With Stefano Poda we will have another big project, Gounod’s Faust with another innovative fascinating beautiful aesthetic.

The project presents a total unreal spacial futurist white tunnel of an enormous rotating ring as well as an enormous hourglass.

Inside the ring, Faust, symbol of all humanity’s actions, walks on an infinite rolling carpet towards present and future not knowing the humanity’s destiny and asking guidance from the devil.

The moving ring becomes the base for a fashion show in a vanity fair in the marketplace. The pompous colorful high fashion and the surprising costumes add charm and pleasure.

The garden and the house of Marguerite are an enormous hourglass that also represents Marguerite’s prison where Time is over, but the rolling ring’s return symbolizes that there is always a way to find salvation and to restart!
