At the beginning of 2022, the NCPA opera Turandot opened an 11th round as a Chinese New Year's present for the audience. As the first NCPA production, it was produced by the composer HAO Weiya, director CHEN Xinyi and set designer GAO Guangjian.

Under the baton of YUAN Ding, NCPA Resident Singers, China NCPA Chorus and Orchestra told this Oriental legendary story with the Beijing No. 171 High School Golden Sail Choir, the Children's Chorus Base of the NCPA.

The NCPA production gives the character Turandot a more human image. Soprano SUN Xiuwei (right) has consummate vocal skills and such a clear grasp of acting, giving full expression over the striking change of Turandot.

Soprano YAO Hong creates a tragic role in Liu, who is simple and kind-hearted. When she is dying, Liu sings a sentimental aria titled "Tu che di gel sei cinta", expressing the unswerving loyalty to love.

Tenor HAN Peng portrays Calaf, who is brave and wise. HAN started his opera career from this role, while “Nessun Dorma” has became an aria that he has sung for the largest number of times.

LIU Songhu (middle), KOU Jing (left) and JIN Zhengjian (right), who appear as three ministers Ping, Pang and Peng in the opera, give a harmonious performance from beginning to end.

The Chinese folk song "Jasmine Flower" runs through the opera under Puccini's pen. The music theme appears in multiple ways, indirectly reflecting different aspects of the character and the change of dramatic emotions. Another lineup including SHEN Na, Warren Mok, ZHOU Xiaolin, YAN Sinan, ZHANG Yang, ZHU He and CHEN Dashuai, will also offer a wonderful interpretation of the opera to the audience.
