The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) is delighted to announce the appointment of Tom Philpott as Director of Artistic Planning and Partnerships and Frances Axford Evans as Concerts Director.

Tom Philpott will take up the newly created position of Director of Artistic Planning and Partnerships. Tom is currently Acting Co-Director of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, where he has established an impressive track record of artistic excellence and creating innovative productions and partnerships. Tom will join the RPO in March 2024, and his knowledge and expertise will be invaluable as the Orchestra continues to develop its artistic ambition under the leadership of Music Director Vasily Petrenko.

Following the announcement of Louise Badger’s retirement in April 2024, the Orchestra has promoted Frances Axford Evans to the position of Concerts Director. Frances has held the role of the RPO's Concerts Manager since 2016 and has built a comprehensive knowledge of the Orchestra’s operations and diverse programme of activity. Frances has been responsible for producing major performance projects for the RPO in London and across the UK, including project managing the arrangements for the music programme for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Commenting on the appointments, Vasily Petrenko said:“As the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra continues to attract new and diverse audiences to its concerts in London, the UK and internationally, we are excited to be strengthening our artistic leadership with two new appointments. I look forward to welcoming Tom and to working with Frances in her new role as Concerts Director. Together we will ensure a bright artistic future for the RPO.”
