Selected speech
In 2018, we were to offer 970,000 seats for the 927 performances of our institutions. We have reached a capacity utilization rate of 83 %. Therefore, we can still base our artistic production on a high demand and a big interest of our audiences. But in times of constantly growing leisure opportunities, a more and more multi-optional consumer behaviour and a decreasing appreciation of traditional forms of art, it is our task to root the art form of opera in this new and accelerated society–also by using the tools of digitalization to open up the phenomenonal “opera” to a target group as big as possible, representing the whole diversity of the society we live in. Apart from the digitalization of our workflows, new possibilities in marketing and sales and the distribution of our productions via video-streaming all over the world, the new technical possibilities nowadays are more and more often also shown on our stages as an aesthetic element. Nevertheless, the most important unique selling point of our art form is still the combination of artistic, technical and logistic achievements into one analog experience. Live–audiences being in one venue, breathing the same air, being part of one collective experience.
