Focusing on new horizions and discussing new development concepts for the industry.

Deepening exchanges and mutual learning among performing arts institutions around the world.

The theater is an important driver to promote the integration and innovation of all civilizations, and is also the homeland for the the public to nurture the mind. In 2019, the first Beijing Forum for Performing Arts was successfully held at NCPA, which laid a solid foundation for deepening cooperation, exchanges and mutual learning among performing arts institutions worldwide. At the Beijing Forum for Performing Arts 2020, the Beijing Forum for Performing Arts (BFPA) was officially established, builing a standard, in-depth and regular multilateral exchange platform for the future development of global performing arts. In November this year, WANG Ning, President of NCPA and Chairperson of the BFPA, was invited to Europe for a three-country visit with his delegation. He reviewed and summarized BFPA's achievements in recent years with Members include Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Lucerne Festival and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and together made long-term plans to continue to deepen the cooperation in various fields under the framework of the BFPA. The delegation also held meetings with top international performing arts institutions such as Teatro alla Scala, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Verbier Festival to conduct in-depth discussions, exchange experience and discuss multi-dimensional cooperation in various fields.

How to attract young audiences with traditional performing arts? How to make breakthroughs and innovations in classical works while keeping their old charms? How to make innovations in performances by applying digital technology? Last year, facing common opportunities and challenges in the industry, theaters around the world retained their characteristics while making innovations, explored new strategies for sustainable development, and planned performances both online and offline, accumulating large amounts of experience. To further deepen exchanges and mutual learning, and promote experience sharing in the industry, the Beijing Forum for Performing Arts 2022 focused on the theme of “Revitalizing the Performing Arts: Tradition and Innovation” to explore three topics: “New Concepts - Fostering the Future of the Performing Arts Industry”, “New Expressions - Exploring Innovative Artistic Expressions” and “New Perspectives - Stimulating Artistic Vitality”.

During the forum, the second General Assembly of the BFPA was held, where the work results of the BFPA in 2022 was reported and a work plan for 2023 was released.

NCPA Taihu International Stage Art Forum 2022 was held simultaneously.

Exploring new ways of presentation and innovative artistic expressions of the stage art industry in the digital age.

At present, the world is welcoming more and more new stage art works whose combination of presentation methods and technology has greatly promoted the significance of stage art in artworks. As one of the professional forums under the framework of the BFPA, the NCPA Taihu International Stage Art Forum 2022 was held on December 9. Supported by the Central Academy of Drama, Shanghai Theatre Academy, and National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, the forum focused on the theme of "New Expressions-Exploring Innovative Artistic Expressions" to explore the creation, technology and dissemination of stage art, exchanging the latest achievements and experience of the digital innovation and development of stage art.

Relevant directors from NCPA expressed that the fact that two forums were held simultaneously shows that NCPA has extensive cohesion and influence in the fields of theater operation and management, artistic production and stage design, exampling its leading role as a national cultural platform. It is hoped that through these two forums, a more extensive and in-depth exchanges and mutual learning platform can be built for both Chinese and foreign performing arts institutions. Global heads and artists of different performing arts institutions could share their ideas and successful stories, exchange new ideas, explore new directions and contribute new driving forces to the innovation and development of the global performing arts industry.

To share the fruits with more industrial collegues and performing arts lovers, Beijing Forum for Performing Arts 2022 and NCPA Taihu International Stage Art Forum 2022 were also broadcast live on several online media platforms, including NCPA Classical Channel, BFPA official website, CCTV.com, and so on.
