Ring in Lunar New Year 2024 at Adelaide Festival Centre’s Her Majesty’s Theatre in Adelaide’s Chinatown precinct and celebrate the Year of the Dragon with an array of family-friendly workshops on Saturday 17 February.

Kick off the festivities with an interactive traditional tea ceremony by Chinese-Australian artist Jingwei Bu before checking out Adelaide’s first dedicated K-Pop studio, Dopamin Studio. Participants will learn the trendiest new dance moves in a 60-minute workshop in Her Majesty’s Theatre’s Ian and Pamela Wall Gallery, located on the rooftop of Her Majesty’s Theatre.

Young artists aged 5-12 years old can unleash their creativity with accomplished visual artist Datsun Tran and learn how to paint a New Year Dragon in a 45-minute workshop where children will learn the basics of drawing and calligraphy.

Adelaide Festival Centre Artistic Director & CEO Douglas Gautier: “This Lunar New Year we are delighted to present workshops focussing on great Chinese cultural traditions. This is an opportunity for all to be involved in celebrations of the Year of the Dragon, an important year in the Chinese astrological calendar.”

Other celebrations will see the Moving Image Gallery, located on King William Road, be a canvas for South Australian artists, Bin Bai, Onnie Chan & Alex Ngo, Evie Ewings, Louise Jones, Laurens Tan and Tianli Zu, to display works that reflect the festive spirit and cultural richness of the Lunar New Year.
