As one of the three major forums under the framework of the Beijing Forum for Performing Arts, the Taihu International Stage Art Forum of the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) has been successfully held for four times since 2019. Depending on the unique resource advantages and industrial influence of the NCPA Taihu Stage Art Centre, the Forum aims to build the largest platform for communication and cooperation in the domestic and international stage art industry, focusing on heated topics, sharing vivid experiences, and promoting innovative development. It also aims to highlight the leading role of the NCPA in the field of stage art at home and abroad, striving to promote the high-quality development of the Taihu Performing Arts Town.
The NCPA Taihu International Stage Art Forum 2023 is jointly organized by the Beijing Design Week Organizing Committee, the NCPA, and the China Institute of Stage Design. It will be held at the Taihu Theatre of the NCPA Taihu Stage Art Centre during the 2023 Beijing Design Week. With the theme of “Domain - Space – Extension”, the Forum will focus on the latest achievements and experiences in the innovation and development of stage art. Three sub-topics were set up for discussion: “The Expansion of Theater Space”, “Digitalization and Performance Design”, and “The Value of Contemporary Stage Art Design”. “The Expansion of Theater Space” focuses on the differences and similarities between contemporary theater art and the traditional Drama or Theater, and the consequences of the boundary of dramatic literature, to emphasize the spatial attributes of dramatic texts. “Digitalization and Performance Design” explores the changes brought about by digital technology to the non-human performance subjects, and the corresponding new relations between spectators and performers, probing into the multiple possibilities of future (digital) design centered on theatrical stage. “The Value of Contemporary Stage Art Design” examines the uniqueness of various theatrical stage elements, expands the boundaries of the stage art vocabulary, and explores the significance and values of its independent existence.
The Forum will be available online. Please send email with your name and institution to
